Washington Medigap
Washington has special rules for rates and enrollments
- Medigap plans are "community rated", everyone applying for the same plan with the same company pays the same rate and;
- You can switch from one Medigap plan or other comprehensive coverage, like from a Medicare Advantage plan with prescription drug coverage (when you have an eligibile election period), to a "like plan" on a guaranteed issue basis. This means you are not locked into a plan that costs too much and you can always be in the lowest cost plan for the same coverage.
- Insurers cannot raise rates unless they raise them for everyone else in the same class.
Rates and Companies
I can get you the latest list of companies and rates which are updated quarterly by the state insurance commissioner. Unfortunately, the link changes frequently, so I don't link to it here. I can also get you current rates including family and other discounts that you might qualify for.
