Medicare Advantage Plans

If you have general questions you should be able to find the answers here or on our Resources page.

Consider these facts in deciding if a Medicare Advantage Plan for hospital and medical coverage is right for you:

  • You want coverage for what Medicare doesn't cover but you want to save as much money as you can for as long as you can. Medicare Advantage plans usually cost less than a Medigap plan (Original Medicare with a supplement) so they don't commit you to spending as much as you would for a supplement. Most people will be money ahead by not spending more than absolutely necessary to get coverage through an insurance company instead of retaining Original Medicare with or without a supplement.
  • Medicare Advantage Plans may cover costs & services not covered by Original Medicare and could also include or offer dental and vision coverage.
  • Medicare Advantage Plans may have no deductibles &  lower co-payments than Original Medicare.
  • Medicare Advantage Plans usually have low premiums -- plans with premiums as low as $0 a month may be available in your area.
  • The primary advantage is that they usually cap your out of pocket expenses, unlike regular Medicare which has no out of pocket limit.
  • There are different types of plans, PPO, HMO, & PFFS. Call or request a quote to see which type is right for you.
  • Private-Fee-For-Service (PFFS) Plans with no network restrictions are available -- see any health provider that accepts Medicare and accepts the plans terms and conditions of payment.
  • No health questions asked. All Medicare beneficiaries, including people on Medicare due to a disability, are guaranteed acceptance regardless of health conditions (except End Stage Renal Disease).
  • "Special Needs Plans" with lower or no out-of-pocket costs may be available for you as a "Dual Eligible" -- people enrolled in both Medicare & Medicaid or if you have certain chronic illnesses.
